The DuraChassis™ extruded aluminum PC/104 enclosure is one of the most rugged PC/104 chassis on the market. Made of lightweight, clear-anodized tempered aluminum, this revolutionary enclosure system is the first of its kind to integrate a removable railed card cage subassembly designed for shock mitigation and simple card removal. Delivering the industry’s highest level of PC/104 system serviceability, the DuraChassis greatly simplifies field retrofits, reconfigurations, and upgrades. Its design also completely eliminates the need for traditional standoffs/spacers and provides a much simpler board removal method that other PC/104 containers on the market. Up to 14 PC/104 cards can be securely held in the card cage, receiving four solid points of attachment by the rails, while allowing complete access to any PC/104 module in the card stack by simply removing four bolts. The chassis also provides a very high degree of protection against damaging shock and vibration energies common to mobile, airborne, shipboard, and other demanding embedded PC/104 environments. Silastic® silicone shock absorbers ("Shock Rocks") attached to the perimeter of its railed card cage effectively reduce G-Loads felt by a PC/104 system in three dimensions by up to a factor of ten. These specially designed shock absorbers are field tested to meet stringent MIL-STD requirements. The DuraChassis comes in four standard lengths – 6.0”, 8.0”, 10.0” and 12.0” - to accommodate up to 5, 8, 11 and 14 PC/104 cards, respectively. It also comes with either Dust or NEMA end caps to provide protection against dust, splashing water and other environmental conditions. The Dust variety fit flush on the end of the extrusion, while NEMA end caps are thicker and have a lip that fits around the extrusion end to improve the environmental seal and enable optional gasketing (EMI Shielded Nickel Graphite or Rubber Gaskets) to be used to achieve a NEMA 4 rated protection. Endcaps come blank, ready to add desired application connector holes. Custom endcaps can be manufactured by Parvus, upon request. The bottom of the DuraChassis extrusion incorporates dovetailed grooves designed to mate with an optional aluminum baseplate for flange mounting it a wall, bulkhead or other fixture. The inside of the extrusion integrates heatsinking grooves along two internal walls for convective cooling, increasing surface area and dissipating heat away from a PC/104 system. As the DuraChassis enclosure is a bundled enclosure solution complete with extrusion, end caps, card cage and internal card mounting method, it affords up to a 20% discount over individual parts pricing. For information on individual components, as well as optional parts and accessories, such as rubber or EMI gasket sets, dovetailed baseplate, chassis heatsinks, and custom end caps, see accessories datasheet. While the DuraChassis is a standardized Commercial-Off-the Shelf (COTS) enclosure, semi-custom designs tailored to specific customer requirements (i.e. connector cutouts) can also be accommodated.
