About Us
Since 1983, Parvus Corporation has been a strategic systems engineering and development partner for aerospace, defense, transportation, and industrial Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Parvus specializes in the rapid design and production of turnkey embedded computing solutions for harsh environments (extreme temperature, vibration, impact, EMI/EMC). Certified to ISO 9001:2000 quality standards (view certificate), Parvus leverages extensive expertise in systems integration, electrical/mechanical design and a complete line of rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) PC/104, PC/104-Plus, and PCI-104 computer boards and enclosures to minimize cost, ensure high reliability and accelerate time-to-market for its customers.
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, Parvus is a U.S. subsidiary of the
Eurotech Group, a global family of technology companies focused on innovative embedded and high performance computing solutions. Eurotech is publicly traded on the Milan, Italy Stock Exchange (
Borsa Italiana) in the high growth TechSTAR index. Parvus operates a 20,000 sq. foot complex located 15 minutes from the Salt Lake International Airport (
see driving directions). Eurotech Group operations are located throughout the USA, Europe and Asia.
Parvus is also a premier advanced technology partner (ATP) with Cisco Systems for the hardware design and integration of the 3200 Mobile Access Router (
MAR), a ruggedized mobile IP router delivering seamless, secure data, voice and video communications across wireless and wired networks.
Markets Served
Parvus serves a large, diverse group of military and commercial contractors developing intelligent, ruggedized computing and communications solutions for harsh field environments. Centered on the North American market, Parvus has strong customer relationships with numerous government contractors, military branches, medical equipment manufacturers, and aeronautics, transportation, energy and telecommunications giants. Key customers include L-3 Communications, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing Company, BAE Systems, Varian Medical, among others.
Because of the broad applications for embedded computing technology, Parvus' products can be found on land, air, sea and space, performing system monitoring, datalogging, diagnostics, communication, and sub-system control. Typical customers outsource their complete computer hardware platform to Parvus, along with BIOS and device driver support. This partnership enables customers to not de-focus from their core competencies or end application software development.
Product Offering
Parvus specializes in rapid turnkey systems integration and development services, designing complete embedded computer systems tailor-made to customer requirements through the use of off-the-shelf building blocks and the company’s seasoned in-house engineering, testing, and production expertise. To facilitate the process for rapid concept to prototype to production, Parvus operates a mechanical and printed circuit board (PCB) assembly line, computer numerical control (CNC) machine shop, injection molding, vacuum forming, and rapid prototyping equipment, as well as environmental testing chambers at its Salt Lake City facilities.
Typical customer projects require low power consumption, high reliability, and tolerance to harsh environmental requirements (MIL-STD, NEMA, IP, RTCA/DO), including high vibration, shock, altitude, extreme temperatures, electromagnetic interference, nuclear/chemical survivability, salt, fog, humidity, water, dirt, and/or explosive decompression. To minimize expense, these systems are typically based on open architecture PC/104, PC/104-Plus and PCI-104 products compatible with popular real-time operating systems (RTOSs), including Windows CE, XP embedded, Linux, QNX, and VxWorks. This robust, off-the-shelf product line includes:
- Rugged Processor Systems
- Mobile Networking Equipment
- Intelligent Military LCD Displays
- Industrial Grade OEM PC/104 Modules (CPU, I/O, and Power Supply Boards, Enclosures)
Embedded PC Technology
Parvus’ boards and systems are typically based on standards-based embedded PC technology. PC/104 is the computer technology standard that adapts widely available Personal Computer (PC) technology and bus architecture for use in embedded microcomputer systems. This type of PC-compatible circuit board (or module) can be used as a complete stand-alone computer or stacked together as components for larger systems. Many types of PC/104 products are available, including single board computers (CPU boards), video controllers and frame grabbers, network interfaces, GPS and wireless modules, high-speed serial buses controllers (USB, FireWire), data acquisition boards, and other specialized interfaces.
PC/104 is characterized by its small form-factor (3.550" x 3.775"), stackable 104-pin-and-socket ISA (PC/AT) bus connector, low power consumption and lack of a backplane. Two derivatives of PC/104 include PC/104-Plus, which adds a 120-pin PCI bus connector, and PCI-104 (a PCI-only version).
PC/104 technology dramatically improves time-to-market for embedded systems development, since it leverages the same readily available development tools used with personal desktop computers. Its compact size, durability, expandability, and reliability make it an ideal solution for embedded computing. More than 200 vendors worldwide supply hardware, software, and engineering services to support the growing PC/104, PC/104-Plus, and PCI-104 standards.
