**PRODUCT NOTICE**
This product is no longer in active production and is not recommended for new designs. Availability is limited to stock-on-hand.  Recommended Product Upgrade Path:
CPU-1233 or CPU-1433.

The CPU-1232 is a fanless, Pentium® MMX class computer in the PC/104 form factor built around the AMD Geode™ GX1 processor with 128MB of soldered SDRAM and a 1x32 pin DiskOnChip® socket. Peripherals integrated onboard include SVGA-CRT, LCD-TFT, two (2) USB ports, two (2) serial ports, parallel port, Fast Ethernet controller, IDE, keyboard, mouse, AC97 sound port, real-time clock, and watchdog timer.

Available in both standard and extended temperature versions, this compact (3.550" x 3.775") x86 embedded processor is intelligently designed for a wide range of aviation, industrial, medical, military, and transportation applications with very low power consumption (5.4W) - without sacrificing performance (266MHz) or reliability (no moving parts). Its onboard Solid State Device (SSD) socket can be used for 32-pin DIL devices, including DiskOnChip® non-volatile memory (up to 288MB), SRAM or PEROM. Its IDE controller supports CompactFlash®, ATA Flash, and 2.5" IDE-Flash disks to perform as rugged hard drives for user program and data files.

The 1232 Single Board Computer (SBC) is designed to run both PC and real time operating systems (RTOS), such as Windows® 95/98/2000/CE/NT/XP, ROM-DOS, QNX®, VxWork®, and Linux®. Its embedded BIOS is located in 1MB of reprogrammable Flash EPROM, 128KB of which is used for the BIOS and its extensions with 896KB for Read-Only Disk and storing the OS and user programs/data. A ROM-DOS kernel comes preloaded to facilitate rapid implementation. Set up parameters are also saved in Flash to enable the module to operate without a battery and avoid set up corruption in the field. SSD support can be read or R/W disk. Virtual Peripheral Support (VPS) allows the module to bootstrap from the parallel or serial ports and redirect keyboard, video, floppy disk on the serial/parallel ports before booting the operating system.

Note: Customers implementing audio or Ethernet functionality should purchase the corresponding adapters, which integrate enhanced Electric Static Discharge (ESD) and over-current protection circuitry. The USB/sound adapter provides two EMI protected/filtered USB ports that can supply power to a connected peripheral device, together with the AC97/PC98 compliant NS LM4549 audio CODEC, which provides 90dB of dynamic range, full duplex stereo A/D’s and D/A’s and an analog mixer with 4 stereo and 3 mono inputs. If sound is not required, customers can use the standalone USB adapter that comes with the CPU-1232 cable set. The 1232’s Ethernet adapter provides a panel-mountable RJ-45 jack and Ethernet transceiver for use with the CPU board’s RTL8139 Fast Ethernet controller, which provides 32-bit performance, 10/100MBps auto-sensing, PCI bus master capability, and full compliance with IEE-802.3u 100BaseT specifications and IEEE 802.3x Full Duplex Flow Control.

For first-time users seeking rapid, out-of-the-box implementation, a bundled hardware development kit is also available, which comes pre-assembled and ready-to-use. The CPU-1232-99 development kit includes the 1232 CPU module, POST code card, ROM-DOS® operating system, cables and adapters - all of which come pre-installed on a benchtop PC/104 development station (with CD-ROM drive, 1.44MB floppy drive, 2.5" IDE hard drive, 110-220V AC power supply, and PC/104-Plus/PCI/ISA backplane). Simply attach a keyboard, mouse, and monitor and you have all of the system resources of a typical desktop PC. ROM-DOS will boot automatically from Flash or you can install your own operating system.  Formerly known as SpacePC® 1232.
