RiderNet³ (“RiderNet cubed”) is Parvus' third-generation mobile high-speed Internet access solution for mass transit vehicles. Public transit authorities and private coach operators equip their buses with RiderNet® to provide business commuters, students and other passengers a reliable wireless 802.11 (Wi-Fi) connection to check email and visit websites at broadband speeds (averaging 450-800kbps) from the convenience of their seats on the bus. An affordable way to help increase ridership and retain valuable customers, Wi-Fi amenities on buses and trains are frequently cited as inducements for using public transit. Providing wireless Internet access onboard passenger buses can help riders make commute time more productive, while helping reduce congestion on roadways as drivers switch to public transit. RiderNet³ is a turn-key solution that bundles all needed equipment (router, modem, antennas, cabling) and managed services, including cellular airtime, technical support, remote system monitoring, 1-800 user phone support service, usage reporting and content filtering. Especially suited for the harsh bus environment, RiderNet³ incorporates a rugged hardware design that eliminates the use of less-reliable consumer cellular Aircards®. A host of standard and optional services are bundled with the RiderNet³ hardware to simplify installation, maintenance, and management, as well as minimize operators’ total cost of ownership. From its Network Operations Center in Salt Lake City, Parvus monitors and tracks all fielded systems as well as performs top-level troubleshooting. If ordered with the DepotLink option, RiderNet³ can also serve as a central communications gateway for all on-board transit technology, either on the road or at the depot. Legacy devices, such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Digital Video Recorders (DVR), Automatic Vehicle Locators (AVL), Automatic Passenger Counters (APC), and Electronic Fee Collectors (EFC) can connect to high-speed cellular networks or to 802.11 transit yard networks and enable wireless collection of operational data for traditionally non-wireless devices.
