PRODUCT INFORMATION

The COM-1289 is a stackable PC/104 board capable of precise GPS satellite positioning and tri-band wireless connectivity in 900/1800/1900MHz cellular GSM/GPRS worldwide networks. An ideal choice for onboard vehicle computing applications (bus, rail, ship, air), this rugged telematics module is built to resist high mechanical stress, thermal shock and wide temperature operation.
Based on the latest low-power, high-sensitivity Fastrax iTrax03 GPS receiver, the COM-1289 is capable of reliable tracking, even in difficult urban canyon and dense foliage environments. Positioning can be updated at 1-3Hz, and GPS data is available in NMEA or binary protocols. For cellular communications, the COM-1289’s Siemens MC55 tri-band GSM/GPRS wireless terminal supports SMS, high-speed GPRS data, as well as fax and voice communication. A standard SIM-card can be installed onboard the COM-1289’s locking card holder or optionally onto an external SIM card carrier. The board’s audio I/O port can be used to connect to low power devices or a headset for voice communication.
Other onboard features include two 16C550 compatible RS-232 level serial ports to provide traditional hardwired serial I/O functions for legacy communications. The GPS and GSM/GPRS terminal are accessed through a standard UART interface that is supported by Linux, Windows XP Embedded, Windows CE and other embedded operating systems. Antenna start-up kits with interface cabling are available for testing, software development and evaluation.
Board configuration is fully software controlled, and all resources can be set-up with the module installed in the system. Settings, such as serial port base address, interrupts and GPS communication protocol can be modified at any time and configuration data is stored in the onboard non-volatile EEPROM. The jumperless board configuration increases flexibility and increases mechanical reliability.
The board is offered in two versions: GSM/GPS combo or GPS only.
